The Company

Tyneside Surgical Services Limited was established and incorporated as an independent health care company in 2007. The company Directors recognised that consumers wanted a clinical service that offered both continuity of care and a greater local choice. The company’s two founding clinicians Mr Hamdy Ashour, company Finance Director and an NHS Consultant Vascular Surgeon and Mr Mark Mercer–Jones, company Director of Operations and an NHS Consultant Colo-Rectal Surgeon, both play an active role to provide clinical and corporate leadership. We are pleased to offer this service within an NHS Surgery Centre that is based on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site at Gateshead. Our management team work in partnership with Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust to plan and deliver safe and efficient clinical care.

Patients therefore have the benefit of a consultant led, patient focused service within the confines of an NHS hospital. We believe that this unique model of care unites the very best of the NHS and the independent sector.
