NHS Commissioners & Providers

We work with local commissioners including Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), GPs and Acute Hospital Trusts to manage specified contracts and individual patients who elect to use TSS under the local Patient Choice arrangements. All medical staff engaged by TSS hold substantive NHS Consultant contracts and have a proven track record in their specialist field.

TSS currently provides a wide variety of diagnostic, medical and surgical specialties and we are continually evaluating and refining our services. We recently launched our dedicated TSS Pain Management Service, TSS Spinal Service and TSS Audiology Service and are always keen to work in partnership with commissioners to deliver innovative new services. Outpatient services and low complexity procedures can be delivered either in primary care 'walk in facilities' or at the North East NHS Surgery Centre Gateshead should more complex care be required.

We manage the 18-week pathway for a number of specialties and have successfully delivered NHS contracts in:

  • Orthopaedics upper and lower limb
  • Podiatric Services
  • Audiology Services
  • Rheumatology
  • Gastro enterology
  • Pain management
  • Maxillofacial Surgery

TSS are planning primary care service delivery in the North East region, in line with the Department of Health's vision for delivering care closer to home. There is scope for outpatient services such as urology to shift to primary care. Clinics suitable would be:

  • Prostate assessment clinic
  • Haematuria clinic
  • Raised PSA clinic
  • Erectile dysfunction clinic
  • Incontinence clinic
  • Urodynamic clinic

An example of general surgical procedures suitable for delivering in primary care include:

  • Varicose veins
  • Some hernias - femoral, incisional, epigastric, umbilical
  • Injections for anal fissure
  • Stapled & open Haemorroidetomy
  • Fistula in ano
  • Hydrocele
  • Removal of lumps and bumps (lipoma's)

The scope of service provision is very flexible and either all, or part, of the pathway can be managed. Over the last year TSS has delivered 3.500 episodes of care, including 578 operative procedures, 348 as day case surgery and 227 inpatient stays. The company works within national tariff and is therefore both cost effective and competitive. For organisations outside of the northern region we can provide visiting clinical teams to deliver outpatient consultations on site, the appropriate operative procedures and follow up care. Alternatively procedures can be outsourced and delivered at the North East NHS Surgery Centre through TSS.
