Consultant Pain Management
Dr Kiran Koneti has qualified (MBBS) from The TN Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai, India in 1999. He then completed postgraduate training in Anaesthesia in Chennai before moving to UK in 2003.
Dr Koneti undertook further specialist training in Anaesthesia & Pain Management across various North East hospitals. He completed advanced pain training from Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne and pursued further interventional interest with post CCT fellowship in Neuromodulation at the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. He was appointed as a Consultant in Pain Management & Anaesthesia in the NHS from 2014.
Dr Koneti has always been keen on research and was involved in research trials in Anesthetics & Pain Management and has national and international publications to his credit. He has established Pain research for City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Trust and leads NIHR portfolio trials. His enthusiasm as educator goes back to more than a decade, apart from delivering regular talks and presentations; has been organising Ultrasound guided cadaver workshops and courses for acute and chronic pain interventions for the betterment of patients. He was the first to introduce Ultrasound guided chronic pain interventions in clinical practice for the North East patients.
His Chronic Pain practice (Back and Spine pains; Neuropathic pains; Joint pains; Headaches; Abdominal/ Pelvic/ Visceral Pains, CRPS, Cancer pain etc.) is based on biopsychosocial model with emphasis on self-management. To facilitate this, medical solutions in the form of medication and interventions (injections) are used as indicated. He is skilled in various interventional pain management techniques:
He values safety & precision based therapies and is an avid user of Ultrasound guided treatments to achieve this. He consistently receives excellent feedback from his patients for his dedication and services in the specialty.
In his spare time Dr Koneti enjoys music, travelling, cooking and values his time with family & friends.
